ETHYLENE

Ethylene, a plant growth regulator, is used in pineapples to induce flowering and synchronize fruit set. When applied in the field, ethylene can make all the plants flower at the same time, which ensures that the fruits are also produced simultaneously. This process can simplify farming operations and allow for year-round production of consistent fruit quality and quantities. 

Ethylene also speeds up the ripening process of fruits by triggering chemical changes that take place at ripening.
